Our History

RinkNet was founded four decades ago with the simple philosophy: “we’ll do the work; you do the scouting”. Over the years, the product has grown into much more than a scouting product into a full-fledged hockey operations solution and is the go-to system for every elite hockey executive around the world.

The original system was developed starting in 1998 by Jim Price, working in his apartment in Guelph, Ontario with its first customer, the Nashville Predators. The Predators, who were an expansion team in the NHL at the time, were looking for solutions for their new club and identified Price as the guy who could deliver it. Before the first hockey season was completed, RinkNet had grown to three teams with Atlanta and Columbus joining. As word got out about this exciting new product, 3 customers quickly made it 8 and then 16.

Over the years, our clientele grew along with our company and the company expanded into new office space in Guelph and the hiring of employees.

In 2013 Price made the decision to expand the business even more by merging with HockeyTech, a new technology company and relocated its offices to Waterloo, Ontario. Under HockeyTech’s umbrella, RinkNet grew by developing integrations with HockeyTV and LeagueStat.

In 2020, even in the midst of a worldwide pandemic, RinkNet grew and evolved again being acquired by Banyan Software (www.banyansoftware.com) and settled in office space in St. Jacobs, Ontario.

Our flagship player management system is used by over 3,500 hockey executives, including every NHL teams, every CHL, USHL, CJHL and NAHL club as well as a host of junior teams and leagues across North America plus many NCAA schools and prep schools as well as Hockey Canada and U.S.A. Hockey.

New products allow leagues and teams to manage their central registry, conduct league drafts and execute trades.
